The article describes a seismograph which is based on the Galitzin, but which has been modified in some respects, especially in the galvanometer and recording mechanism. In the paragraphs which follow these topics are presented: The purpose of this particular design of seismograph; Problems with design of existing instruments, and steps taken to overcome them; Detailed description follows of three instruments viz. Seismograph for indicating the vertical components of disturbance; Seismograph for indicating the horizontal components of disturbance; and Recording apparatus for registering the indications of either form of seismograph, accompanied by several diagrams.
