Description Notes
Black metal cylinder; circular cavities on either side, with metal cover plates, to hold platinum-resistance coils; pipes for inflow and outflow of water, and for mercury-in-glass thermometer; two pairs of ebonite covered brass terminals; socket with brass screw for support stand. Five yards of twisted, four strand insulated leads, with copper lugs. In wooden box with hinged lid.
Condition: good; incomplete (platinum resistors missing).

Description
This instrument directly measures the energy radiated from a hot body (such as a furnace), using the principle that the resistance of a blackened platinum wire coil varies proportionally with the amount of heat it absorbs.
