The Instrument Purchase book in the Cavendish Laboratory records that a Bichromate battery was purchased from Prof. Stuart on 02/22/1877. A ‘1 cell Bichromate battery’ appears in the list of Cavendish instruments published in the Cambridge University Reporter, 27/04/1875, p.352.
