Electrical apparatus. Perspex case containing a standard cell of two glass phials filled with liquid (cadmium sulphate / mercury), joined together by a horizontal cylindrical tube of glass at just below their mid point. The glass phials are mounted in a cork used in wine/beer making which are themselves glued to the perspex base. From each of the glass phials is a coiled platinium wire which runs to the standard black/negative, red/postive terminals. On the positive glass phial is a label in paper with “MUIRHEAD” “Weston Standard Cell” “E.M.F. 1.01859 V. Abs.” “SER. No. 4304” “DATE 10.11.53” “+”.
