Description Notes
Sanders educational power transformer. Demonstrates changes in the voltage of current. Use of different metals in thin sheets show voltage flows and resistance allows measurements to be taken.
The educational transformer comes in its own box. The lid is clipped closed in four corners, when it is lifted out it becomes the base of the transformer. On it are the name plate with inscription above (in the middle at the side) and at both ends is a red plastic plaque with “135 VOLTS AC”. Parellel to the name plate are two wooden blocks 197mm in length. At each end of the block is an upright metal casing, at the top of which is a screw fixture. Laminations (thin metal sheets - in this case green equals Stantanis No. 1) are interwoven through the winding bobbins. This is then placed across the wooden blocks, held in place by a bar of metal that goes over the screw fixture and is tightened with a washer and nut. The bobbins are metal wire wound round a wooden hollowed rectangle, which extends above the wire to hold a platform of wood with brass contacts. The transformer is at present fixed together on the wooden blocks.
Inside the box are two smaller boxes containing more laminations and other parts of the transformer.
Condition good. The hinge has come away from one of the internal boxes.
