Description Notes
Decorated octagonal base. Inset compass with silvered base and central floral decoration; cardinal points marked in Latin; magnetic variation marked at approx 15˚ W of N. (Needle marked ‘S’ and ‘N’; 28-1-2000). Hour circle segment divided IIII - XII, I - VIII, numbered by I, subdivided to 30 minutes (also on inner rim). (Folding gnomon on diametric bar; 28-1-2000). Latitude arm divided [2˚] - [88˚], numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 2˚. Reverse of compass box marked ‘Eleva Poli’ and carries list of towns and latitudes. Hinge of hour circle and inner face of circle and diametric bar marked ‘VIIII’.
Condition: fair (silvering worn).
