Augsburg dial, silvered brass, purportedly by J. G. Vogler, German, 2/2 18th C, but possibly a modern fake.
Silvered brass dial, with modern rhodium plating. Decorated octagonal base on 3 feet. Inset compass with silvered base; 8-point rose with cardinal points marked in Latin; magnetic variation shown at 20˚. Plumb-bob on pierced and decorated gallows. Hour circle divided III - XII, I - IX, numbered by I, subdivided to 30 minutes; similarly divided on inner rim. Latitude arc divided [2˚] - [88˚], numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 2˚. Reverse of compass box carries a list of towns and latitudes (see history file).
Hinge of hour circle and rim of circle marked ‘V’.

Card case covered with black leather and lined with blue silk; brass hook fastener.
