Description Notes

Silver with some gilt-brass fittings. Case marked with a latitude table on both lid and base. Inside the case the base has an inset compass with silvered base; cardinal points marked in Latin; magnetic variation marked at 10˚W of N. gilt-brass hour circle divided on inner silver rim 3 - 12, 1 - 9, numbered by 1, subdivided to 30 minutes. Cam-operated latitude adjustment with circular latitude scale divided [25˚] - 65˚, numbered by 5˚, subdivided to 1˚, with gilt-brass lever/pointer; scale marked ‘Gradus Poli’.
Screw loose in base. Loose (replacement?, broken?) gnomon (?) in lid; 17-1-2000
