Description Notes

Waterclours in brown and green of cross-sections of sycamore.
Upper one may be of leaf bud: green coiled layers lie inside a brown coat. Layers are labelled ‘P’, ‘C’, ‘R’.
Lower diagram is a later stage of development, with the same letters marked on. A stem on right has two leaves (?) emerging and curving up to left, then down again.
Title ‘Sycamore’ obscures earlier handwritten title by Henslow.
Ref number bottom right.
