Description Notes

Thirteen green pictures of different stages of development of Vitis, labelled ‘a’ to ‘n’.
‘a’ occupies the centre, from top to bottom: whole stem, with leaves.
‘b’ to ‘e’ run down right side, and depict the sexual organs. They are gradually uncovered, with the final picture being a cross-section through the stigma.
‘f’ and ‘g’ are bottom centre: ‘f’ is the fruit, and ‘g’ is its cross-section.
‘h’ and ‘i’ are bottom left, different views of the seed.
‘k’, ‘l’, and ‘m’ are centre left, different sections through the seed.
‘n’ is top left, a bunch of grapes.
Title is bottom left.
Ref number in bottom right.
Reverse side:
in centre is stuck a label (all text is old German gothic font, except for the Latin species name): ‘Engleders Wandtafeln für den naturkundlichen Unterricht. Pflanzenkunde.’ The main text is a key to parts ‘a’ to ‘n’. Bottom line reads ‘Verlag von J.F. Schreiber in Esslingen bei Stuttgart.’
Outside the decorative frame, at bottom left is ‘Lief. VII.37.’
The chart has been repaired at some point by sticking extra backing paper over damaged parts. Top left, a paper entitled ‘Lecture IV, Monocotyledons’ has been stuck on. The typed text is about monocotyledons and their characteristics. Lower left, a fragment of another typed paper remains.
