Description Notes

Lines between sections of table are in pencil, with text and numbers given in stencilled black capitals.
The main table compares rye plants which were sown three metres apart, with those which were drilled 15cm apart. For both types, primary root growth, and adventitious root growth are given separately.
Data recorded are: number, length and depth of primary roots; number and length of 1st and 2nd order lateral roots; and total root length.
At the bottom, total length of root systems are compared between rye, wheat and wild oats. (Oats is longest, then rye, then wheat)
The comparative data, or perhaps all the data (it’s not clear), are taken from experiments by Pavlychenko and Walter.
