Description Notes

Botanical wallchart showing table of results for a drainage tank experiment, by Newham, English, 20th century.

Table of results of experiments on the chemical composition of soil using drainage tanks. Table is outlined in blue crayon, with text in a black italic hand.
The text, though not the data, were outlined in pencil before being inked in, and the pencil marks have not been erased.
The amount of different chemicals recovered from a control ‘unmanured’ run is compared with the amounts added and later recovered from three other runs (in which sulphate of ammonia, superphosphate, and muriate of potash were added). The table was drawn with space for an extra run, but no data are entered.
The compounds investigated were nitrogen as ammonia, nitrogen as nitrate, phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid, chlorine, lime, magnesia, potash, and soda.
Title across top.
