Around it are five numbered diagrams, all bigger than life size:
1. (top right) external view of flowers; ‘Blütentraube’
2. (bottom right) female flower; ‘weibliche Blüte’
3. (bottom left) female flower with petals removed to reveal stigmas; ‘dieselbe ohne Blütenhülle’
4. (top centre) male flower with petals removed to reveal anthers; ‘männliche Blüte nach Entfernung der Blütenhülle’
5. (top right) cross-section through the ovule; ‘Querchdurchschnitt des Fruchtknotens’
On the surrounding white frame at top is ‘Ausländische Kulturpflanzen in farbigen Wandtafeln‘.
At top, on black ground, left ‘I. Abteilung.’, right ‘Tafel 19.’
On the white at bottom: immediately under black are the artist’s and publisher’s details; the next line is the species title; bottom line is key to the numbered diagrams, in German.
