Description Notes

Seven colour pictures on a black background (inside a white frame) of parts of Myristica.
Main diagram is a picture of the upper part of the plant ie stem, leaves, flowers.
Around it are six numbered diagrams, all bigger than life size (except 4):
1. (top right) partially dissected view of female flower; ‘Geöffnete Griffelblüte’
2. (centre left) longitudinal section through style and stigma; ‘Längsdurchschnitt des Fruchtknotens nach Berg’
3. (top centre) partially dissected view of male flower; ‘Geöffnete Staubblattblüte’
4. (bottom left) opened fruit, revealing the shell, seed mantel, and the seed; ‘Frucht, a) Schale, b) Sammenmantel (Macis), in welchem c) der Same’
5. (bottom) the nut, two views, the left one more enlarged; ‘Nuss’

On the surrounding white frame at top is ‘Ausländische Kulturpflanzen in farbigen Wandtafeln‘.

On the white at bottom: immediately under black are the artist’s and publisher’s details; the next line is the species title; bottom line is key to the numbered diagrams, in German.
