Description Notes

Eleven printed colour diagrams (numbered 1-11) depicting pollination in Aristolochia.
1. (left) cut-away of flower, which is tall and thin. Insects are deep inside at the nectary, and must have passed ‘hairs’ (?anthers) to get there.
2. (left) cell structure of one of the ‘hairs’ (?anthers)
3. (centre right) a long thin row of cells growing out of a wall of chloroplast-ed cells
4. (centre) stigma from the side
5. (above centre) stigma from above.
6. (top centre) three pointed cells emerging from a base of cells.
7. (top centre) an insect - the vector for pollination
8. (right) a cut-away of the flower, at a later stage. The ‘hairs’ (?anthers) have disappeared, and a petal has curled over to prevent more insects entering. The seeds are developing.
9. (bottom centre) the developing fruit, from the side.
10. (below centre) the developing fruit from above
11. (top left) something spherical in cross-section. A pollen grain, or a seed?

No labels.
Species name is hand painted at bottom.
Good condition.
