Description Notes

Nine numbered diagrams, showing developmental stages in Selaginella.
1. (top right) colour picture of a megaspore, with part of surface cut away.
2. and 3. (top left) line diagrams showing the cell structure around a developing prothallus.
4. (centre left) two small objects with long filaments attached.
5, 6, 7, and 8 (bottom) line diagrams, with yellow shading, showing the development of a six-celled structure into something much bigger.
9. black and white picture of a round object, possibly a spore.
[The catalogue says this diagram shows ‘open megaspore with prothallus, antheridia amd archegonia and young plant’]
The chart was printed in two halves, and has been mounted on a single cloth backing.
Good condition.
