Description Notes
Two identical boxwood rectangular protractors with bevelled edges.
Obverse has degree scale around three sides divided [0] - [180˚] and [180˚] - [360˚], numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚. Fourth side has map scale for 2 inches to 1 mile, divided 100 - 0 - 46[00] yards, numbered by 2[00], first section subdivided to 20. Centre occupied by table giving horizontal equivalent in yards for various angles, given vertical height of 1 foot. Also transversal centimetre and half-centimetre scale.
Reverse: map scale for ‘yards 2 1/2 ins = 1 mile’, divided 100 - 0 - [3700], numbered by 2[00], first section subdivided to 20. Map scale for ‘yards 1/2 inch = 1 mile’, divided 100 - 0 - [6200] yards, numbered by 1000, subdivided to 100, first section subdivided to 50. Map scale for ‘yards 1 inch = 1 mile’, divided 100 - 0 - [3200] yards, numbered by 500, subdivided to 100, first section subdivided to 20. Inch scale divided [1] - [0] - 3, numbered by 1, first inch occupied by transversal scale for division to hundredths. Metric map scale for ‘1cm = 1km’, divided 1 - 0 - 11, numbered by 1, subdivided to 0.5, first section subdivided to 0.05. Set of conversion factors also marked.
Condition 3000.1 fair (singed?), 3000.2 good; complete.
