Description Notes
Rectangular cardboard pattern for range and sketch card.
Map scales along three edges: one for 1 inch : 1 mile, divided 0 - 8000 yards, numbered by 1000; one for 1 : 20000, divided [0] - 5000 yards, numbered by 500; one for 1 : 40000, divided [0] - 5000, numbered by 500. Central semicircular degree scale divided [90˚] - 0 - [90˚], numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚. Equally spaced concentric semicircles within this, numbered by 1000 from 6000 (degree scale) - P [0] - 6000. Notes on use given at top: ‘to judge distance by sound - multiply seconds between sight and sound by 370 = distance in yards
movements of legs and arms can be distinguished at 1000 yards.
Individual men become vertical lines at 1500 yards.
At 2000 yards infantry presents a thick line, cavalry a thicker line with jagged top.’
Condition fair (dog-eared at corners); complete.
