Description Notes
Boxwood navigation scale with bevelled edges. Inch scale along one edge, divided [0] - [24], numbered by 1, subdivided to 0.1. Meridian line marked against 12, with compass point lines radiating from this point. The lines are named differently above and below a double horizontal line. Those above are marked ‘these letters shew the bearing of the scale when the compass lines are applied to a meridan on the chart’; those below are marked ‘these letters shew the same when the lines are applied to a parrallel of latitude’.
Reverse carries eight different scales:
1. scale of chords and scale of sines and tangents for low values. Chords scale divided [0] - 90˚, numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚; sines and tangents scale divided [30´] - 8˚, numbered by 1˚.
2. Scale of tangent of rumbs, marked ‘TR’, divided [0.5] - 4, numbered by 1, subdivided to 0.25.
3. Scale of numbers marked ‘NUM’, divided 1 - 10[0], numbered 1, 2...1[0], 12, 2[0], 3[0]...10[0].
4. Scale of sines, marked ‘SIN’, divided [40´] - [90˚], numbered 1, 2...10, 20...80.
5. Scale of versed sines, marked ‘VS’, divided 10˚ - [168˚], numbered by 10˚.
6. Scale of tangents, marked ‘TAN’, divided [40´] - 45˚, numbered 1, 2...10, 20, 30, 40, 45.
7. Scale of meridional parts, marked ‘MER’, divided [0] - [85], numbered by 10, subdivided to 1.
8. Scale of equal parts, marked ‘EP’, divided [10] - 0 - [1]80, numbered by 10, subdivided to 1.
