[box for Herschel telescope mirror and lenses etc. - part of Wh.0012]

Wooden box with brass handles, lock and brass plaque on lid.
Contains various eye pieces and lenses, some wrapped in brown paper and string, with original labels.

Also contains a brass plaque saying: ‘Newtonian telescope, made by, Sir William Herschel, about 1800, presented by, Howard Marryat, to the Whipple Collection, 1st June 1944’.
