Sextant, by Georg Friedrich Brander and Christian Caspar Hoschel, German, 1780 (c).
Simple sextant in leather-covered fitted case. For measuring angles on land rather than navigational purposes. Scale is divided on brass to 1 degree and read by vernier to 10 minutes of arc. Has screw-fitting handle.
Inscriptions: ‘G.F. Brander & Hoschel fecit Aug. Vinder...’ (on edge of scale curve)
‘Dena Minuta’ (on sliding arm)
