Square [lignum vitae] plate with pinned joint to rectangular [lignum vitae] framed mirror circular piece set in frame with toothed brass rim notched into a second toothed ring with key handle; brass rod with ring handle to rod on mirror adjusts angle; brass body covered with black lignum vitae; screw fit condenser lens in brass cell; draw tube with screw thread to tapered snout (no optics extant).

Description
To work a solar microscope, the mirror was placed outside a room via a hole in the window shutter, whilst the barrel remained in the room. The mirror reflected the sunlight through condensing lenses, the slide containing the object and projection lenses. The image was then projected onto a screen in the room.
