Description Notes

Drainage level in brass, by Gardner and Co Ltd., c. 1850.

Brass throughout. Sighting tube. Mounted on elevation screw below eye piece and pillar support below objective. Graduated Arc with inclination, scale 12-0/0-12, on left of eye piece. Bubble mounted on the support. No graduations. Pillar base fits onto tripod head (no foot screws). Axis clamp. Fitted wooden box with trade label.

Description
A simple and cheap instrument designed to assist in setting out field drains. Fixed to a tripod, the base plate is levelled and the eyepiece end of the telescope raised with the screw until a distant point at the desired angle of slope is sighted.

This instrument was made by Gardner & Co of Glasgow in 1850.
