Description Notes
14 glass slides, of very various dimensions and each inscribed with details of the specimen, and a signature - ‘Antiqua’, ‘Fossil palm from Antiqua’, ‘Flint from Chalk formation’, ‘Larva Dyticus marginalis or water lion’, ‘Skin Larva Lacquer-moth with the breathing orifices’, ‘River Hunter N.S. Wales Very Pretty’, ‘Autur, France, Pretty’, ‘Respiratory system of caterpillar...’, ‘Respiratory system Larva Dyticus’, ‘Alimentary system Caterpillar’, ‘Fossil infusion ... Bohemia’, ‘Kovinia, Yellow Sea’, ‘Fossil infusion Pervia, Italy’, one other. Eight are enclosed in a perspex mount together, the others are loose.
Rectangular card box covered with maroon leather and lined with blue velvet and blue satin. Brass hinges and push-button fastener.
1843.2: Ivory slide with 3 objects marked ‘Nitre’, ‘Quartz’, ‘Topaz’ in maroon case lined with blue velvet and satin.
1843.3: 3 x 1” slide marked ‘Polariscope/Blue Selenite’. Cover glass cemented over it and covering some scratched inscription giving objective and eyepiece details and also a description (illegible) of the botanical specimen. Wooden case lined with velvet and silk and covered in brown leather (originally more slides in this group, now disassociated).
Counting the enclosed slides as separate parts, and not including the perspex enclosure, 19 parts were counted in total on 24/03/2022.
