Description
Abraham Ypelaar was originally a diamond setter and merchant in Amsterdam, but after 1780 he turned his hobby of mounting microscope objectives into a profession. He exported cabinets of slides to England and several survive, testifying to the industry of this Dutchman. The specimens are all mounted in various sizes of circular ivory cell and a handwritten list describes each object.
