Description Notes

Leather-covered case lined with calf-skin, containing 8 instruments, various accessories and a compass.
1. Brass semicircular protractor divided [0] - 180 and 180 - [0] clockwise, numbered by 10, subdivided to 1; divided [0]-180 by 10 anticlockwise; diameter with bevelled edge, notch index.
2. Brass square; apertures through tips; ends shaped.
3. Brass diagonal scale; 6 inch, subdivided to 1/100.
4. Ebony parallel ruler with one-way brass hinges.
5. Brass ink point, with steel point and brass adjusting screw; twisted shank.
6. Brass dividers with inset steel points; double long hinge joint.
7. Brass compass point with inset steel point and interchangeable foot; accessories; compass point (Foot is not interchangeable. The compass point is moved in and out by the screw, possibly for fine adjustment, but remains attached near the joint; 2-2-2000).
8. Brass compass point with inset steel point and interchangeable foot; 4 accessories; steel compass point; ink point with brass shaft and steel point; brass shaft for pencil point with steel wing nut (this is an extension arm, not a pencil holder; 2-2-2000); hinged brass shaft, with brass screw (for holding a pencil; 2-2-2000).
(There is also a small oval piece of steel, with two extensions. Possibly for screwing and unscrewing the wing nuts (??); 2-2-2000).
Two turned ivory dishes.
32-point paper compass with steel needle; glazed; lead case (writing scratched on the back; 2-2-2000).

Condition: good; complete.
