Description Notes

Brass; set on three milled head levelling screws; base with inset compass, silvered base, 4 point rose, 8 cardinal points, calibrated N(0) - E(90) - (0)S twice (but W) by 10 to 2o. (Device to hold needle in place when not in use; 31-1-2000). 2 bubble levels at right angles set in the base; hinged hour circle calibrated [III 3/4] IIII-XII, I-VIII [VIII 1/4] by I to 5’ on face and inner rim (inner rim only marked from VII-XII, I-V; 31-1-2000). Folding square section gnomon. Note calibrations not evenly spaced as on a true equinoctial but as on a universal inclining dial, however there is a pin gnomon, not set on a diametrical bar but offset. Folding latitude quadrant (0) - (85) by 10 to 1o; remnants of silvering on the hour circle.

Condition: fair; complete.
