Description Notes

Decorated octagonal gilt-brass base on 3 feet. Inset compass with silvered base; 8-point rose; cardinal points marked in Latin; magnetic variation marked at approx 17˚W of N. Plumb bob with decorated gallows (bob missing). Hour circle divided III - XII, I - IX, numbered by I, subdivided to 30 minutes on (face and; 26-1-2000) inner rim. Latitude arc divided [4˚] - [88˚], numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 2˚. Reverse of compass box marked ‘Eleu. Poli’ with a list of five towns and latitudes: Corfu 39, Lion and Ofen 47, Prag 50, Landau 49. Hinge of hour circle marked VII; inner face marked IIV.
