Description Notes

Oval gilt brass case; push fit lid with oak leaf pattern border, and floret as centre decoration, inside plain.
In base, the dial with oak leaf pattern border. Folding silver hour segment divided on inner rim [3 1/2] 4 - 12, 1 - 8 [8 1/2], numbered by 1, subdivided to 15 minutes (calibrations filled in red). Pin gnomon extending both sides of a diametrical bar. (Stop on right hand side; 31-1-2000). Hour circle is adjusted for latitude by a cam operated from a needle turning over a circular scale, divided [20˚] - 60˚, numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 1˚. Folding gallows with levelling bob. Inset compass with silvered base; cardinal points marked in Latin; offset for magnetic variation 10˚ W of N. Base of case plain.
