Description Notes

Rectangular brass base plate with decoration at corners. Inset compass with cardinal points marked; magnetic variation shown at 13˚ W of N. Hinged hour circle segment divided 3 - 12, 1 - 9, numbered by 1, subdivided to 30 minutes, inner rim only has hours marked. Folding pin gnomon on diametrical bar. Decorated latitude quadrant divided [0] - [90˚], numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 2˚; slots through the hinged plate holding the hour circle (quadrant detached 31/1/2000). Reverse of base carries 2 feet and a table of latitudes (see history file). Reverse of compass box engraved with a coat of arms surmounted by a crown and supported by 2 eagles. (Dial is stuck in box 31/1/2000).
Case covered with tooled leather.

Condition: fair (quadrant detached, stuck in box); complete.
