Description Notes

Gilt-brass octagonal base on 3 feet, decorated with silvered brass wind ring (16 points). (Diametrical bar with central hole for wind vane; 31-1-2000). Inset compass is missing (the existing compass box is Augsburg work but not part of this instrument; not attached either). Hinged hour circle divided III - XII, I - IX, numbered by 1, subdivided to 30 minutes (divided to 15 minutes; 31-1-2000); divided on inner rim 3 - 12, 1 - 9, numbered by 1, subdivided to 30 minutes. (Folding pin gnomon on diametrical bar; 31-1-2000). Decorated gilt-brass gallows with plumb bob. Hinged latitude arc divided [6˚] - 90˚, numbered by 10˚, subdivided to 2˚. Pierced and decorated wind vane.
Leather-covered paper box (wooden box (?); 31-1-2000), lined with faded red silk. In the lid a silvered brass disc, with oak leaf border and a list of towns and latitudes, also the signature.

(Base, compass box, needle, wind vane and a small screw are all separate in the box; 31-1-2000).

Condition: fair; incomplete (compass box missing).
