Description Notes

Cabinet of microscope slides; by Abraham Ypelaar; Dutch, c. 1790.

Oak cabinet faced with mahogany veneer, standing on four wooden feet; sliding top with banded satinwood inlay on the front pillars; (lacks front sliding door); 12 drawers each with a stamped number and brass pull; each drawer with green silk lining and glass cover (glass covers bought by Whipple) except No. 1.

No.1: 2 booklets and 1 folded manuscript. (see file for details of each)
No.2: 10 compartments with 10 4-object ivory sliders numbered 1-40.
No.3: empty.
No.4: 12 compartments with 12 4-object ivory sliders numbered 1-48.
No.5: as drawer 4.
No.6: 12 compartments each for 8 or 9 single cell 11 mm od. ivory transparent specimen cells, on the left 1, 2, 4-36, on the right 1-22, 24-27 numbered in ink.
No.7: 12 compartments each for 8-9 single cell 11 mm od. opaque specimens numbered 55-84 and 1-30.
No.8: similar for opaque specimens numbered 2-54.
No.9: numbered 1-36.
No.10: 8 compartments for 5-6 single cell 16 mm od. opaque specimens numbered 1-28.
