Description Notes
Universal instrument, brass, silver scales. Circle, divided 0 - 360˚, subdivided to 1˚, to 30´ and to 10´. 4 silvered verniers (very tarnished), 4 reading microscopes. Used in horizontal position in conjunction with pillars and Y carrying horizontal axis with telescope (cross-hairs, rack and pinion focus, slide-in eyepiece) and arm with short arc scales as in an Everest theodolite with 2 reading microscopes and hanging bubble level. Inner horizontal ring has clamp and tangent screws; outer similar on lower rim, and zero adjustment by knurled screw and spring beneath. The whole mounted on brass block set on circular platform with pillar and tripod stand and 3 levelling screws. Object glass cover. Counterweight and brass and steel fitting for conversion to vertical circle when mount on circle for second telescope (missing) comes into use, bubble level fixed to brass block and silvered horizontal scale on circular platform. Wooden base with 6 brass securing screws.
