Description Notes

Two 5-inch porcelain register plates for an aneroid barometer, for use at sea. Graduated 73-70 cms for pressure and -10° to 60°C. With remarks in Spanish. With maker’s name: J.H. Steward, and retailer:Criensu, [Avenida] Florida 118, B[uenos] A[ires].

These are for an aneroid barometer (NOT a wheel barometer), made for the Argentine marine market.

Description
Examples of porcelain machine-engraved register plates for aneroid barometers. The upper barometer scales are graduated in millimetres, with the remarks in Spanish. The lower, centigrade, scales are for curved thermometers. These plates were manufactured by J.H. Steward of London for the Spanish-speaking market. The name and address of a retailer in Buenos Aires has been engraved on the lower centre of the dial.
