Description Notes

Tripod stand supports hexagonal mahogany pillar on which pivots a mahogany plank. The plane of the plank is fixed by a pivotted wooden rod which passes through the centre of a hinged pillar attached to the stand. The instrument is locked by a wooden screw on the central pillar. Mounted on the mahogany plank is a ‘V’ shaped oxidized brass channel. At the eye end is a brass degree scale divided 0 - 180 - 0 numbered by 10 subdivided to 30´ with vernier reading to 1´. Eyepiece missing. The objective end consists of a short brass tube beyond which is pivotted a dark glass mirror whose angle can be adjusted by screw-operated spring. The angle of the mirror is recorded on a metal disc divided 0 - 90˚ numbered by 30 subdivided to 5. A rod along the edge of the plank hold a piece of black velvet which folds over the channel when the instrument is in use.
