Description
Electrocardiographs are medical instruments that measure the rhythm of heart contractions and the relative strength of different parts of the heart muscle. This electrocardiograph was owned by Dr Alastair Uilleam Mackinnon (1906–1997) who worked in Leeds as a clinical assistant in cardiological clinics at the General Infirmary and at his own general practice. MacKinnon studied cardiology at the University of Edinburgh and the Wenkenbach clinic in Vienna. In 1940, MacKinnon partnered with Donald McDonald McIntyre and their practice became known at McIntyre and MacKinnon. According to the London-Gazette dated 30 July 1940, their office was at 305 Harrogate Road, Moortown. The label inscription on the electrocardiograph records an address at 303 Harrogate Road.
