Description Notes
Botanical wallchart. Chara fragilis: structure, habit and oegoniumt. Maker Dodel-Port
Colour printed botanical teaching diagram of Chara fragilis, a seaweed. The wallchart consists of 4 seperate diagrams, however damage to the right hand side of the chart obscures diagram 2 from identification. Figure 1 depicts the marine plant as a whole whilst the central diagram figure 3 depicts the cellular structure of this plant.
Paper backed onto cloth.
The right hand side of the diagram is only partially present and has been pieced back together and stuck down, with large sections missing. A large rip extends inwards to the centre of the diagram and has been badly repaired at some point using cellotape which has since yellowed.
Fair condition.

Description
Swiss husband and wife team Arnold and Carolina Dodel-Port created this illustration for their Dodel-Port Atlas, an atlas of botany for school students. Both botanists (Arnold at the University of Zurich), together they made many new discoveries about the plants they were studying. They wrote to Charles Darwin, who said that Carolina’s drawings showed information about plants in a 'wonderfully clear manner'.
