Description Notes
Copper still in three parts.
1. Base vessel in form of round cauldron with two carrying handles.
2. Middle sieve with two carrying handles.
3. ‘Head’ consisting of inverted domed chamber with second dome set over this. The second dome has a circular opening at the top to allow cold water to act as the condenser to enter. There is a short run-off pipe for the water (broken off) and a second, longer pipe or beak to extract the distilled liquid into a collecting jar.
A mixture of liquids would be heated in the base vessel and the fraction required would condense against the inner dome and be siphoned off through the beak.
Condition fair (run-off pipe broken off); complete.
