Description Notes

Small transit instrument, oxidised brass. Flat-based stand with double A-frame support for axis. Axis secured in Y bearings by pivoted bars and clamping screws. Telescope with object glass fover, focus by knurled screw moving object glass, cross hairs, extended diagonal eyepiece with push-fit filter. Vertical circle, silvered scale divided 0 - 90˚ - 0 - 90˚ - 0, subdivided to 1˚ and to 30´; 2 silvered verniers marked ‘A’ and ‘B’, clamp and tangent screws, zero adjustment by knurled screw. 2 reading microscopes. Bubble level on telescope. Striding level.
Fitted wooden box with Troughton & Simms label. Turned brass container houses glazed centring device.
