Description Notes

Home made. Eighteenth century box fitted to take a home made microtome. 2 pieces of wood, overlapping and screwed together. The end of one cut away and glass mounted on the two ‘prongs’ remaining. ‘Block’ mounted on a threaded shaft with hand graduated scale. Tin at the other end ‘GALLAHER’S TOBACCO’ containing a cog on a shaft. Bulls-eye condensor lens from a microscope and various other bits of cut metal. Rack and pinion with condensor lens. Iris diaphragm in a fitted box. Second fitted box with hole in one end and a lift off lid.
