Description Notes

Threlfall micromanometer. The instrument is supported on a black-painted metal box with three levelling screws and a circular bubble level. There are two cylindrical chambers, one is totally sealed and made out of metal. The other is an open metal cylinder which was surrounded by a thick glass cylinder (only a small broken portion remains). This glass cylinder had a circular glass lid (broken) which supports a micrometer screw whose point (protected by a plastic tube) can be adjusted vertically. The vertical scale is calibrated in 0.5mm by the alignment of two scales each calibrated in 1m increments, and has a range of 50mm. Between the two chambers is a vertical support for the micrometer lid clamp. Both cylinders have outlet pipes with a brass cock which opens and closes both chambers simultaneously. Repair label attached which reads: Received Book No 16772 / Received 27 Nov. 1963 / From POST GRADUATE MEDICAL / SCHOOL, DUCANE RD, LONDON / W.12 / 1-THREFALL MANOMETER (ON LOAN) (ATT. MR.
