Description Notes

Each part consists of a cast iron tripod base on three levelling feet, supporting horizontal bar which carries a steel cylinder above it. Set within the cylinder is an axle with a crank handle on wheel which alters the vertical angle of a quadrant set over the steel cylinder; the quadrant carries a rectangular trough which moves with it, and is attached to the cylinder by 2 steel springs. The angle of the quadrant is shown by a circular scale at the other end of the axle, divided 0 - [10], numbered by 1, subdivided to 0.1. At the first end of the axle is a perpendicular bar which turns the steel cylinder, thus tilting the trough and quadrant.
Part marked ‘B’ is topped by a small optical arrangement with lens.
Part marked ‘A’ carries a bar to the side of the main horizontal; attached to this bar is a large metal disc which is rotated as the crank handle is turned.

Condition poor; complete (?)
