Description Notes
Brass-cased taffrail log register. Pivoting glazed cover to enamelled dial plate. Main dial divided 0-100. 2 subsidiary dials divided 0-1 mile by 0.1 miles and 0-1000 by 100. Each dial with steel pointer. Fork brass mount screwed on to wooden base.

Description
The taffrail log consists of a towed impeller which turns a stiff rope attached to a geared counter fitted on the ship’s taffrail, seen here. The readout can be seen without the need to haul up the impeller.
