Description Notes

Boxwood edged with brass. Hinged; graduated on inside 1-12” to 1/10”. Brass semi-circle set into inside graduated 90-0-90˚ to 1˚ with brass indicator arm. Outside with centigrade scale 0-54˚; Fahrenheit 20-130˚ Reaumer 0-43. Also table of degrees of slope.

Description
Stanley described this type of clinometer as “much used by civil engineers as a working tool.” It could either be placed directly on a slope, such as a railway embankment, when the bubble would be centred, or rested on a flat surface in which case the distant object would be viewed through the sights.
