Description Notes

Grating spectrograph, apparently converted from earlier Hilger Instrument. Slit and camera together at one end. Slit with steel jaws, width adjustable by screw with drumhead divided 1-10. Wooden camera with bellows, plate mount pivots centrally, with linear scale (0-65) and clamp. Plate has vertical double rack and pinion motion with vertical 100mm ivorine scale. Hinged opening with leather handle. Rack and pinion motion for focussing camera. Brass tube set in cast iron mount with brass retaining bars and 4 screws, screw-in lens at stage end. Brass circular stage, divided 0-360˚ by 5˚ with 3 verniers on brass. Stage rotated by knurled knob at camera end, linked through rod and universal joint. Whole mounted on cast-iron support, with three feet with levelling screws.
