Description Notes

Painted metal tube with two hinged wooden legs (one missing) and central socket for metal tripod. Central eyepiece with rubber shade and an objective at each end (base length 1m); right eyepiece has a horizontally split field, left eyepiece shows range-finding scale (illuminated by raising hinged lid above eyepiece). Knurled screw for adjusting prisms. Range read by scale in yards, divided 250 - 20000, numbered 250, 260...500, 550, 600...1000, 1100, 1200...2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 10000, 20000. Lugs for holding objective lens caps (one cap missing). Brief instructions for use on left-hand end.
One spare eyeshade; plug, cable and switch for illuminant for scale; plastic wallet in box holds instruction booklet (booklet present but the wrong one, because too early). Wooden container with two spare bulbs.
Fitted wooden case with brass hinges and lock, and steel fasteners and carrying handles. Paper label in lid giving details of presentation to Department of Geography by J.M. Wordie, Master of St. John’s.

Condition good; incomplete (one supporting leg missing)
