Acer pseudoplatanus: flower and fruit. Maker Shrubbs
Hand painted botanical teaching diagram mainly in black and white showing Acer pseudoplatanus. the sycamore. Consists of 9 separate diagrams showing different parts of the sycamore flower at different stages of ‘magnification’. The diagram in the top right hand corner shows a branch of Acer flowers whilst the diagrams on the left hand side show the anatomy of the individual flower. The bottom one of these diagrams shows a cross section through an entire flower and exhibits the stigma, stamen and pistil of the flower. The diagram above this shows a close up view of a flower in entirety and above this are the mature seed pods with the ‘helicopter’ wings familiar of sycamore. The diagram at the top shows a dissected flower with only the stigma, a single stamen and the developing seed pod present. Down the centre of the paper there are 3 smaller diagrams of a seed at different stages of development. Finally in the bottom right hand corner there is a single hand painted colour schematic diagram of an simplified aerial plan of flower structure. This diagram is painted in shades of blue, red and yellow.
At the bottom of the paper is the inscription:
