Description Notes
12 models, French and German of fungi. Made of plaster, paper and wood. French maker I.V.A.C. Epouville, France. German maker unknown. 2 models with no identifiable maker or place of origin. 19th century to 20th century. The fungi are presented in an ‘au naturel’ style with their wooden bases covered with moss.
The French Models have a green wooden base with moss. They have a cream coloured label with the Latin fungi nomenclature and a darker cream to brown makers label. The label distinguishes edible from non-edible. This label is held in place by a form of handcut plastic protective layer (similar to book covering). The fungi are presented in twos or threes on each board representing various stages of growth. The fungi are held on to the wooden bases by screws from the fungi down into the wood rather than vice versa.
5340.1 Agaricus campestre
5340.2 Amanite panthère
5340.3 Amanite phalloïde (slight chip from surface of adult funghi)
5340.4 Amanite muscaria (slight chip from surface of adult funghi)
5340.5 Boletus edulis
5340.6 Lepiote procera
German models are on a black wooden base with moss. They are marked with a red painted on number (crudely painted) on the underside of the base is a paper label which gives details of Latin nomenclature and a description in German. There are some hand written annotations to each label. The German models form part of a series and have their original numbers on the paper labels. Two of the models are marked in ink on the fungus itself.
