Description Notes

botanical teaching model of a dandelion (Taraxacum) made of wood and papier mâche by Hagenbeek Wageningen (or Brendel of Berlin) from the 19th century.

Wooden base painted black. In the centre of the base is a blue label with Latin classifications, English, French, German and Italian translations. Below the blue label is a small metal plate fastened in to the wooden base with two nails. On the plate in capital letters is “HAGENBEEK / WAGENINGEN”. The base is turned with three turned wooden columns to support the plant, leaves and flowers. The support rods are of painted wood and lead up to the plant, halfway up this rod is a paper label with the number “119” in black handwritten ink (on two, the third has no number distinguishable but the paper label remains).

On one rod there is a singular petal with stamen etc, another has the seed after pollination, the third rod has a cross section of the flower head once seed dispersal has occurred.

Condition good.
