Description Notes
Botanical teaching model made of wood and papier-mâche by Hagenbeek Wageningen (or Brendel of Berlin) from the 19th century.
Wooden base painted black. In the centre of the base is a blue label with Latin classifications, English, French, German and Italian translations. Below the blue label is a paper label with a blue border inside of which is black handwritten type “363”. The base is turned with a two turned wooden columns to support a flower and a seed pod (?). The stems are of wood and half way up the stems is a paper label with the number “60” in black handwritten ink.
The stem leading to the flower has a hollow basin which has been filled with resin to hold the petals of the flower. Two of the petals have subsequently broken away and there has been attempts to glue them back in, however this has not succeeded. An unidentified plaster section painted yellow has been placed with the flower but it is difficult to see how it was attached before breaking away. The seed pod is constructed from plaster and is fully intact.
